The consortium consists of 8 partners from 7 different countries.

At the heart of the project is set formulating a plan model for action in the field of development education aimed at improving the efficiency, quality and impact of the actions set out in the project Rural DEAR and executed locally in rural areas. The plan will serve as a starting point for local experts in project Rural DEAR, will improve coordination between them and find useful opportunities for interaction between them.

General Objective:

Contributing to a social attitude change towards sustainable development and promote the improvement of quality and effectiveness of DEAR (development education and raising public awareness) actions and the increase of their scope and impact. 

Specific Objectives:

  • Contributing to a social attitude change towards sustainable rural development.
  • Develop and implement a participatory DEAR local plan, with innovative and effective strategies and action lines.
  • Promote the improvement of quality and effectiveness of DEAR actions and increase of their scope and impact.

Target Group:

Education and research centres, NGO, community centres, schools and universities, including students, as well as local authorities and active members, involved with development.

Main activities: Activities:

  1. Collecting data and analyzing current situation regarding development education (diagnosis)
  2. Creation of a local plan/agenda on project DEAR in each of the municipalities. Diagnosis of actual situation in each partner municipalities/regions and identification of main DEAR local actors and creation of working groups
  3. Creation of DEAR network for exchange of methods and approaches between individuals involved in the project.
  4. Organization of International meetings and educations with local experts in order to know different experiences, exchange of best practices and spread information.
  5. Creation of a Web site for exchange of knowledge, resources and tools about ED in rural regions.
  6. Encouraging innovative actions and ideas on DEAR, creation of a fund for assistance and raising awareness depending on each single social context.
  7. Compiling, exchange and spreading of best practices, innovative ideas and successful experiences on DEAR.
  8. Capacity building on DEAR lines of action innovative strategies to local DEAR agents, involved in the project (University community, municipality staff and officers, volunteers, socio-cultural coordinators, etc.)

Main Results:

  • Drawing up of a DEAR Local Plan/Agenda in each of the municipalities/regions involved, establishing a model to be reproduced in any other city.
  • DEAR network creation for exchanging methods and tools among European DEAR agents.
  • Working website and database for exchange of knowledge and resources regarding development education.
  • Promotion of innovative activities and ideas on DEAR and implementation of pilot plans through competitive principle of financing of the project.

MULTIPLYING EFECTS AND EXPECTED CHANGES: 

  • Citizenship: The Project will contribute to increase public awareness about the relation between Europe and the developing countries, promoting an active and critical citizenship encouraging social participation towards global sustainable development and a change of attitudes and habits.
  • NGO and other ED agents involved in the area of development: The action will promote coordination and synergies among ED agents in the process of development education, facilitating the better use of resources and preventing fragmentation or duplication of actions and efforts.
  • University students: The action expect to induce a change of attitudes and habits among students that could lead to a wider mobilisation for global development and to the progressive inclusion of this theme into each discipline, motivating at the same time, the research on global development.
  • University teachers: The aim is to be implemented a change in the attitude and to be formed themes for meditation in different subject disciplines, so that a process for development shall be generated within the particular school/university subject.
  • Partnership: One of the effects of this action will be the establishment of a perdurable network of collaboration among partners and local active groups that will provide mutual learning and exchange of best practices, new ideas, experiences, resources and tools. Such collaboration can originate further researches and projects.
  • Other European municipalities: The process and method of the drawn up Plan/Agenda will be systematized and be taken as a model for implementation in any other European municipality willing to execute an ED local plan for development education.
