On October 28, 2025, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vratsa organized the second capacity-building event under the project “People Powered Tourism – Empowerment of local communities through co-designing experience based transformative travel to enhance visitor economy”, funded by the Interreg Danube Region Programme (DRP) 2021–2027.

The partnership brings together 14 organizations from 10 European countries, with the Municipality of Szeged (Hungary) as the lead partner. The project aims to develop an innovative visitor-oriented tourism model that places local people at the heart of sustainable development by encouraging community engagement and creating authentic tourism experiences rooted in local identity and human connections.

The event, held in Zgorigrad village (Vratsa Municipality) — one of the project’s pilot locations — aimed to motivate local residents to take an active part in the destination’s development process. During the meeting, participants were introduced to the project’s key activities, expected results, and opportunities for cooperation between citizens, businesses, cultural organizations, and public institutions. The participants emphasized that sustainable tourism requires coordinated efforts from all stakeholders to achieve real social impact and economic revitalization in the region.
