The international ReInd-BBG project stands on a clear and categorical principle: the reuse of abandoned industrial sites ("brownfields") is a much better alternative than developing new pristine territories ("greenfields").
Through the project, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vratsa actively promotes this approach, which simultaneously stimulates economic growth, protects the environment, and efficiently utilizes already existing infrastructure.
How does the transformation happen in practice? By developing specialized tools, new management models, pilot locations, and demonstration activities, the ReInd-BBG project shows how forgotten and neglected industrial spaces can be given a new lease on life. They have the potential to turn into modern hubs for economic activity, innovation, and new investments.
Key benefits for local communities and businesses:
- Economic Upswing: Transforming old sites into new business zones attracts investors and creates jobs.
- Environmental Protection: It halts the overdevelopment of nature outside urban centers and limits urban sprawl.
- Resource Savings: The existing transport, energy, and water/sewage networks are utilized, which reduces costs for both municipalities and businesses.
Choosing sustainable land use is a long-term solution for the future of the region.
